Jonathan Bartlett had lost his legs fighting for the U.S. Army in Iraq. He did everything right afterword, however — went back to school for a business degree, rejoined the workforce, did all the celebrated civilian American things. He killed himself in the shower two months ago, leaving a note saying that he wanted to “be forgotten.” Meanwhile, back in the uniformed ranks, 154 active duty U.S. troops killed themselves in the first 155 days of this year alone. This rate is a 50 percent upswing from the troop suicide rates of 2010 and 2011, and the Army Times notes that “Suicide totals have exceeded U.S. combat deaths in Afghanistan in earlier periods, including for the full years 2008 and 2009.”Al Jazeera has this report:
