Blocked Shot Sends Puck on Full-Ice Journey to Back of Net

We've never seen a goal like this before.

You don't see that every day. — AHL (@TheAHL)November 24, 2016

Cliches really suck. On the (very) rare occasion, however, they can be relevant.

In what has to be the most literal example of 'the best offence is a good defence' that we've ever seen, Steve Bernier of the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers blocked a shot off the stick of Hartford defenceman Ryan Graves in a tilt between the division rivals on Wednesday—and scored in the process.

Following a bounce off Bernier's shin pad that defied all physics and base logic, the puck careened the length of the ice straight into the back of the Hartford net. Bernier's gutsy effort not only held the fort defensively for Bridgeport in a tight game, but the insurance goal with under a minute to play cemented the victory and gave the 31-year-old his second tally of the night, and sixth of the season.

The Quebec City native has scored more than a few goals in the NHL and AHL, but it's safe to say he's never gotten one that weird.

The No. 16 overall pick in the 2003 draft, considered by many to be the best draft ever, put up six points in 24 games with the New York Islanders last season, and has 230 points in 633 career NHL games.
