USWNT, Abby Wambach Finally Break Through on Set Piece

After a solid first half of near-misses and even a waved-off goal, the United States finally found the back of the net in the 45th minute.

The United States were all over Nigeria for most of the first half tonight and finally, in the 45th minute, Abby Wambach found the back of the net. The goal came off the U.S.'s sixth corner kick, which Megan Rapinoe fired to the far post where Wambach used her foot, not her head, to hit it off the volley and past Precious Dede.

The U.S. had several chances to score in a first half full of set pieces, including an early goal that was waved off on a very close offside call. They kept firing balls in deep and forcing the issue though, and we were able to see Wambach do a little Luis Suarez gun firin' to celebrate.
