Australian Football Chairman Takes Header off Podium During Trophy Presentation

Australian football chairman eats it, falls off podium while trying to present trophy to grand final-winning team.

Sometimes you can be so turned up for a trophy presentation you get a little carried away and wind up tumbling off the damn podium as soon as you set foot on it. Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy, a spritely 84 years old, took a header off the stage while trying to award Melbourne Victory the award after beating Sydney FC in the A-League grand final.

The stage itself was tiered and he likely missed a step as he approached the trophy and just went all the way down, trying to use the trophy itself to keep himself from falling. Luckily his friend was there to watch him fall and hold on to the trophy—to keep it from falling on Lowy, he will probably say. But we know better, pal. We know better. After a few minutes, Lowy got to his feet smiling and waving to the crowd and got on with presenting the trophy to Melbourne Victory.
