There's something eerie about seeing your shadow move around your body due to a shifting light source, all while you're standing still. Whether your shadow has shifted due to a tree obscuring the sun or you're someone who frequently spends time in photo studios, it's an odd sensation that can catch you off guard and raise the hair on your neck. EPILOG is an interactive room installation by Berlin-based animation and interaction studio Schnellebuntebilder that mimics this idiosyncratic sensation and let's you master it through an immersive, audio-visual experience.

EPILOG includes a 25-minute, constantly evolving space filled with light, sound, and haze that responds and even dances with your physical movements. Using graphics/textual program VVVV and Pure Data, the installation includes tracking cameras, fog, and "a smooth double-projection" to create reactive light form, like abstract schools of fish, which surge around the feet of viewers. When you move your arms or body, the shadows and light respond like a fearful animal—essentially bringing shadows to life and allowing you to play a cat-and-mouse dance (or fight) with them.As the project's video excerpts illustrate, the better you are at dancing, the more captivating the experience. If you were the type of kid who was afraid of the silhouettes that infiltrated your room through your windows at night, this installation is your chance to become a literal shadow boxer.See some photos of the installation below:
