Fight it all you want but summer is over. As the temps and leaves soon start to drop, so will some of the year's biggest albums. Last year at this time, we had already seen major releases from Daft Punk, Avicii and Disclosure, but in 2014—aside from a few standouts by Porter Robinson and Todd Terje—most of the year's bigger LPs have failed to connect. Was the world of dance music relying on Afrojack to revolutionize the album format? Not really. Even as Tiësto's "Wasted" enjoyed its run at radio, the album from whence it came withered. With those bombs in the rearview, it's fair to ask: do albums still matter to a genre and a scene driven by the quick hit of a tasty single? If they're good, they certainly do.
Here are our picks for the albums that should make an impact this fall, from the buoyancy of Dillon Francis to the electro-emo of Tove Lo to the sheer power of Steve Angello and everything in between. Mark your calendars and plug in your headphones. The sounds of autumn are upon us.
