Creators Remix Roundup: Jamie xx, Chromeo, And Matthew Herbert

Jamie xx returns Four Tet’s favor, RAC makes Chromeo even cooler, and DJ Koze tackles classic Matthew Herbert.

Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week. For past Creators Remix Roundups, click here.

Four Tet: “Lion” (Jamie xx Remix)

Jamie xx and Four Tet appear to be playing a remixer’s game of phone tag. After playing together at the Grand Palais this summer, Four Tet released a remix of The xx’s single “Angels.” Returning the favor, Jamie xx has released this streamlined take on Four Tet’s nine-minute epic “Lion.”

Chromeo: “Bonafied Lovin” (RAC Remix)

Chromeo’s single “Bonafied Lovin" is a synth-laced, retro funk track that comes complete with a ”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGksDvKZ9ek" target="_blank">hilarious 80s-style video. This new remix from RAC takes out some of the track’s saccharine synths and wink-at-the-audience quality and replaces it with sheer, danceable sexiness. The remix will be included in RAC's four-year retrospective LP Chapter One to be released this month.

Matthew Herbert: “It’s Only” (DJ Koze Remix)

Before taking to remixing samples of a Frankfurt nightclub (in 2010’s One Club LP) and the squeals of a pig on his way to slaughter (2011’s One Pig), experimental musician Matthew Herbert released his 2001 deep-house music LP Bodily Functions. On “It’s Only,” Herbert and frequent collaborator Dani Siciliano created a sort of Mazzy-Star-does-house-music vibe, and the new remix by DJ Koze brings Siciliano’s reticent vocals to the fore and backs them with driving hand-claps and meandering electronic warbles.
