Creators Remix Roundup Week 26

Mark Ronson with The Black Lips, Neon Indian with The Antlers, and more exciting combinations to explore this weekend.

Our Creators are a very talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always cluttered with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

The Black Lips: “Modern Art” (prod. Mark Ronson)

A few months ago we took you into the studio where The Black Lips were hard at work on their sixth release, Arabia Mountain, under the creative guidance of producer wunderkind Mark Ronson. Though the full album doesn’t hit stores until June 7 (out on Vice Records), this single gives us a taste of what we can expect from this unlikely new partnership. Thankfully, it sounds as if Ronson’s influence has only served to refine the Lips’ signature vintage-inspired punk sound. The psychedelic album artwork above seems to foreshadow a bit more funky vibe, but we’ll just have to wait and see what sort of new directions Ronson’s production skills took the band in.

The Antlers and Neon Indian: “Rolled Together”

This studio session “Rolled Together” The Antlers with our own Neon Indian. Here, The Antlers enlist Neon Indian to replace their single’s horn section with his signature synthesizers. The song unfolds expansively, and the collaboration works so well we don’t know why we didn’t think of it first. The Antlers’ second album, Burst Apart, was released this week.

Layo & Bushwacka!: “Let the Good Times Roll”(James Lavelle Global Underground Remix)

We felt like revisiting Creator James Lavelle‘s 2002 remix of Layo & Bushwacka!’s “Let the Good Times Roll” this week. As part of Lavelle’s compilation for the UK-based DJ community Global Underground‘s Barcelona album, this reverb-heavy beat still gets us going. The album is available to order off GU’s website.

CREATOR BONUS TRACK

Dave I.D.: “Only Me I Can Save” (The Horrors’ Tom Furse)

This track was remixed by Creator Joshua Third‘s bandmate Tom Furse, who provides synth and bass for the records the two make with The Horrors. We think this remastering of Dave I.D.’s noisy track sounds horribly wonderful.
