A MAN FELL TO EARTH FROM THE EDGE OF SPACE
Felix Baumgartner broke the world record for the highest ever sky dive

Felix Baumgartner, a 43-year-old Austrian man, broke the world record for the highest ever sky dive by jumping out of a capsule 128,000ft above Roswell, New Mexico.

The descent took just under 10 minutes, with Baumgartner travelling at speeds of up to 833mph to become the first ever sky diver to break the sound barrier.

The previous world record – 102,800ft – was set by American military officer, Joseph Kittinger in 1960.

Five Royal Marines have been charged with the murder of a man in Aghanistan; the first time such charges have been brought against British forces since the conflict began.

The soldiers were arrested after Royal Military Police found suspicious video footage on a serviceman's laptop.

The victim is believed to have been an innocent farmer.

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, Mauritania's president, was admitted to a hospital in Paris after being shot in the stomach by his own troops, supposedly by mistake.

Sources say "jumpy" military guards were responsible, mistaking the president for a security threat as he tried to pass through a checkpoint.

A dissatisfaction with Abdel Aziz – who assumed power after a military coup in 2008 – is growing, but he appeared on state television from hospital to dispel any rumours of a coup against him, claiming it was an "incident committed by error".

The EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to promote peace and democracy.

Greek citizens were shocked, as things clearly haven't been so peaceful there for the last couple of years.

Panos Skourletis, spokesman for leftist party Syriza, said "We are experiencing what really is a war situation on a daily basis… There is nothing peaceful about it."

Ali Zidan, a former diplomat of Muammar Gaddafi, is the new Libyan Prime Minister.

Zidan worked for Gaddafi until 1980, when he defected and joined the opposition in exile.

The former PM was dismissed a week ago after failing to form a government and the president of the national assembly has asked Mr Zidan to propose a cabinet within two weeks.
