I know, these days Dennis Rodman is just some ex-sports guy, reality TV star, and is probably as addicted to the media attention cross-dressing gets him as he is turned on by it, but 15 years ago Dennis Rodman really was a big fashion deal, partly because he was - as part of the most successful NBA team of the 90s, the Michael Jordan-powered Chicago Bulls - actually an astounding basketball talent. Rodman won the NBAs Defensive Player of the Year twice. Back then, post-AIDS, post-hip-hop, post-the 'greed is good' 80s, fashionable non-suit-wearing guys - as opposed to fashion guys - had to choose from a range of looks that basically amounted to dressing like a body-conscious teenager with attitude. People, especially men - especially sports stars known for headbutting referees, didn't dye their hair Day-Glo colors, nor did guys get their nails 'did' unless they were goths, and dressing in women's clothing was pretty much considered a medical condition. Oh, and he banged Madonna when that was a signifier of something.
