We asked HTRK to make us a playlist and now that it's here, we're considering blowing off all plans and playing it all weekend on the couch in our undies, drinking whiskey and eating something hot, exotic and possibly expensive. Jonnine Standish was kind enough to tell us about their selections.
Jonnine Standish: Our choices here are somber and hallucinatory, the songs focus on the natural voice and otherworldly travelling textures. Those snippets of conversation, you know some quite personal, that we often make or overhear with strangers on the path to nowhere.Did you make any new discoveries pulling this together?
New discoveries were the new White Car album and the Chris Watson El Tren Fantasma which started the whole concept of the ghost train. I've always loved ghost trains. Are you both fans of making and receiving mixtapes?
Mixtapes are a very personal form of curation. We're both really into getting them and giving something of yourself away making them. What’s the best song or selection anyone’s ever sent you?
I will always remember the mixtape a boyfriend of mine gave to a friend. That is how i worked out he was in love with her.Where should people be listening to this one? Feels kind of like a bath selection, or at least someplace meditative…
This is a mixtape for leaving home. It's for travelling between cities and leaving everything behind.Leaving on a ghost train?
The Ghost train is a reference to our psychic energy. The train is taking you from adolescence to adult. It has nothing to do with ghosts but a more firm belief in a predetermined destiny and the power of the mind. I believe in both these things.Just finally, it was great seeing HTRK in Australia recently. Are you coming back anytime soon?
We're both writing the next HTRK album in Australia so we should try it out on home shores soon. We plan to record an EP soon in New Mexico and a full length next year. We have met someone who will produce our music this year, it's secret for now. He's cool though.Follow HTRK on Twitter: @haterock
