NEW YORK - WE HEART OMAR SOULEYMAN

Don't know if you noobs have already been hepped to it with your ipods and blogospheres, but the latest Western outsider musician being championed by the guys at Sublime Frequencies is 90s Syrian superstar Omar Souleyman. It sounds like someone playing "Beat It" at double-speed backwards (aka, incredible) and the fact that it's all being delivered by a tiny dude who looks our Kuwaiti friend's dad in the Arafat costume he made for Halloween two years ago is icing atop a cake already composed almost entirely of icing. Maybe we're just being naïve, but why can't they spend a little more time putting out shit like this, instead of shit like this.
