President Trump’s first address to Congress on Tuesday night is being widely lauded by pundits as being “presidential.”

Trump did not back away from any of his more extreme positions, but talking heads across the political spectrum nevertheless appeared largely impressed with the tone of the speech. For once, Trump sounded like a typical Republican giving a Republican political speech.

One could argue by doing that, Trump is merely fulfilling a promise made in 2016 on the campaign trail in Wisconsin: “I’m like a really smart person. I could be the most presidential president. I could be. It would be boring but that’s ok.”
