Russian President Vladimir Putin has finally congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden, six weeks after the US election.
He sent a congratulatory telegram to Biden a day after his win was officially confirmed by the Electoral College, the Kremlin announced.

“Vladimir Putin wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States, which bear special responsibility for global security and stability, despite their differences can truly contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing,” the Kremlin said.
The Kremlin had previously said it would wait until election results were official before congratulating Biden, despite Putin congratulating Donald Trump within hours of the race being called in 2016.
Putin is among the last world leaders to publicly acknowledge the results of the election, apart from Trump himself.
