The Creators Project Is Coming to San Francisco

We are sick of telling our friends in Silicon Valley that they are never going to get that special someone's motor running with all their "technology" and "data" talk. To counteract the boner-numbing nature of numbers and microchips, you've got to lace it with a little rock n' roll. To show them how it is done, we are bringing The Creators Project to San Francisco next weekend, where we will fuse art and technology together in the form of multimedia installations, live music, film screenings, and panel discussions over two days at historic Fort Mason. So now our nerdy pals can get their geek on without cockblocking themselves in the process.

Saturday's headliners, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, will feature Creators Nick Zinner and Karen O--fresh from performing her recent psycho opera, Stop the Virgens, and looking scary as hell on the cover of our Spooky Issue. Squarepusher will also be there to debut his new live show, marking one of his first US performances in more than seven years.

HEALTH, The Antlers, Zola Jesus, Shabazz Palaces, The Hundred in the Hands, and Teen Daze will round out the day, plus an audiovisual spectacle from Chinese punk rock band New Pants alongside art from Feng Mengbo’s Bruce Lee VJ Project. James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem will also be DJing alongside some special surprises.

In addition to the music, we'll also be exhibiting artworks like the installation Origin by United Visual Artists with electronic accompaniment by composer Scanner, Six-Forty by Four-Eighty by Zigelbaum + Coelho, My Secret Heart by Mira Calix and Flat-e, Meditation by Minha Yang, and Overscan from Sosolimited.

We’ll also be debuting a variety of brand new works like Chris Milk’s interactive piece Our 3 Stages of Flight, a smartphone-enabled gaming installation from SuperUber called Octocloud, and new work from Casey Reas.

Artworks will be on display all weekend, and over the course of the festival we’ll be screening films and hosting panel discussions like "Artist as Researcher" and "The Creative Potential of the 3D Web" with Aaron Koblin and our San Francisco hackathon winners, as well as creative coding workshops.
