MELBOURNE - PARTY WITH THE ANIMALS

February 11, 2009, 11:39pm

Every Thursday night in February there will be bands playing live at the Melbourne zoo. The shows are all-ages and you can BYO your own booze. Whoever came up with that idea is a brave soul or has never mixed nature with alcohol before.

For example, the last time I went to the zoo I was very, very wasted. It was during the Black Lips tour and a few days after our Christmas party and no one around the Vice office had been getting much sleep. We decided to take the band to zoo and film it for a VBS.tv segment. We had good intentions but once we realised you can buy beer at the zoo things disintegrated pretty quickly. Basically the day turned into gag after gag about spotting Beth Ditto in the bushes. Perhaps these bands will be better behaved.

On this Thursday the 12th (as in tonight) are Adelaide's Wolf & Cub and Sydney dance-rock hipsters Van She. Next Thursday the 19th is Modular's new non-dance, psych-rock band Tame Impala and everyone's favourite band ever Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Woo! Gates open at 5:30 and you can hang out with the animals until 7pm before moving onto boozing and bands.

We have 5 double passes to give away for each night. If you wanna win, email us at  stuff@viceaustralia.com and tell us what your favourite animal is and why. And don't forget to tell us which night you'd like to attend.

Tickets on sale now through zoo.org.au or 1300 ZOOS VIC. For more info, visit zoo.org.au/Melbourne/Roar_Sounds.
