CHASING LULA

Anyone who’s made prank calls before the invention of *69 knows the most that happened when the sucker on the other side caught on was a big, fat “fuck off.” But there were always those rare times you’d manage to pull it off without anyone catching on. Last week that happened: Someone gave interviews to foreign radio stations passing themselves off as Brazil’s president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

First this guy made contact identifying himself as the president’s spokesman, offering an exclusive interview with the man himself, who wanted to calm the waters for people planning to visit Brazil for the 2016 Olympics. Then a journalist from the SBS radio station in Australia decided to air the interview with our illustrious president. During the talk, “Lula” even called Obama “my little dark friend” – and the journalist decided to spread that around with the consul general and with some colleagues in Brazil.

Obviously they quickly discovered it was all a lie, and that the supposed spokesman had shown up all over the place, giving interviews to other suckers. Instead of a “fuck off, asshole,” the fake Lula is now being hunted by the federal police. Please please don’t let this turn out to be another Yes Men stunt.
