Hey Ron! - Will Uppers Bring Me Down?

Another Tuesday, another 24-carat hunk of solid judgment from our imperturbable accounts receivable manager Ron. Keep reading to see what our guy thinks about drugs and the people who use them…

Hey Ron,
What's your stance on drugs? I'm a 23-year-old girl and think it's OK to indulge as long as they don't consume me. That said, I did ecstasy and coke all last weekend. It was a great time but now my brain feels like someone took an ice pick to it. Have you ever done drugs? I need some advice!

Doing drugs at any age really isn’t good. There are repercussions, as you can see. For example, there are just as many places and programs for rehab as there are drug stores or liquor stores or drug dealers because everyone thinks it can be controlled. But, at the end of the day, most drugs are made so that you want to come back for more. They’re made to be addictive. I don’t want to see you on that show Intervention. You will be on there one day if you don’t stop. Just think of how much more you could accomplish without frying your brain.

I will admit that I’ve tried weed. I was in high school and smoked some before a basketball game because my friend said it would make me play better. I’m all stoned and thinking I’m about to become a star on my first time out. But I was so high I couldn’t control it. I was all over the court. I wanted to do everything. I didn’t even smoke much—just a couple puffs, but it totally destroyed me. I almost got kicked off the squad. My coach wasn’t sure what was wrong. I just told him that I was on a lot of medication and wasn’t feeling well. It wasn’t a good experience for me. I never did it again.

Look, it’s your choice. But if you’re going to ask me what I think and what I’ve seen growing up, I would say don’t do it. I haven’t seen too many people who’ve done it and made it out successfully. It’s like that commercial: You work harder to buy more drugs to work harder. It’s just a repetitive cycle that you can’t win. We all want to experiment with something—you can’t prevent that. Between sex or drugs or whatever, everyone wants a new experience. But I think you should try to cut your losses and stop it and do something with your life other than wasting your money on drugs.

Love,
Ron
