An End of the World Playlist by Jonny Telafone

Jonny Telafone is playing Dark Mofo's Blacklist party June 12.

Before Jonny Telafone's post-apocalyptic R&B is set to hit Dark Mofo's Blacklist party on Queen's Birthday Eve, we had the man/myth/legend put together a playlist of bangers fit for the end of the world.

The Year is 2160. Civilisation as we know it is dead. All that exists now are cyberpunk scavengers and celebrity holograms. Rihanna's hologram manages to actualise into a physical form and becomes the first GodQueen of Earth and establishes a Water Palace on top of Mount Everest which is now just a really big hill. It is the deepest wish of every vagabond and scavenger to gain access to the water palace. Yet few have entered and even fewer have returned. Tonight I take you inside these sacred dance chambers…

Public Image Ltd - "The Order of Death"

This song is featured in the movie Hardware by the South African director Richard Stanley. It features a disembodied Iggy Pop as a radio host and even Lemmy makes a cameo as a water cabby all set in a dystopian industrial complex surrounded by unforgiving desert.

Britney Spears - "I'm A Slave 4 U"

This is Britney at her best I reckon. Excellent song and vocal delivery is lathered in Britney's iconic spidery tones. I like the film clip too. From what I can gather it's set in some kind of post-apocalyptic waste where people can't stop dancing but the aircon is out and it barely ever rains.

Rihanna - "Pour It Up"

I imagine Rihanna on her throne in this as some kind of invite-only Jabba's palace where the water is plentiful but you'd have to pay some hefty tribute to GodQueen Rihanna or be a heavy hitter of some description to get an invite.

Vangelis - "Tears In Rain"

After dancing so hard you'd need a break. So I imagine in Rihanna's future palace of degenerate water wastage and other more conventional and timeless sins someone would occasionally spin Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack in full.

Ween - "Friends"

Friends will be of great import in the coming dystopia although whenever I play this to my friends in the present they invariably make me turn it off. Maybe I need some new friends.
