The 90-second trailer, which debuted on Good Morning America, offers a brief look at the film, which takes place before the events of A New Hope. The official Star Wars website describes the film's plot as "the story of unlikely heroes who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star." I have no idea what they're talking about, but it certainly looks interesting.

It's also the first major Star Wars film that's being marketed without an episode number, which shows the future of the franchise: Rather than continuing purely down a linear, chronological path, Disney is likely to expand the Star Wars universe as much as it can to keep bringing new storylines to theaters in perpetuity.

Rogue One will be released on December 16, just about a year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released worldwide, earning parent company Disney more than $2 billion at the box office.
