If there was any remaining confusion over whether or not Apple gear has fully conquered the soul of consumerist America, it's gone now. According to Reuters, one third of all Americans are hoping to buy an iPad this holiday season, and 22% say they're going to skimp on other presents to save up for Apple products.I repeat; one-fifth of all of America is actively not buying other presents for its loved ones so it can afford to gift the shiny electronic touchscreen rectangle with rounded edges instead. You know, that same shiny round-edged rectangle that one-quarter of America already owns. That is how badly we want the giant house of apps; it has eclipsed all other presents, and is sucking up American purchasing power into its immaculately designed black hole.Such is the immense power of this created want to end all created wants–Apple has convinced America that the thing it would love most of all come Christmas is half a laptop.
