In case you live in a cultural sphere where Back to the Future isn't a governing force of knowledge, you might not have heard that Nike has unveiled an exact replica of Marty McFly's futuristic kicks from Back to the Future II. Yeah, you remember: the power-laced shoes that McFly straps on and wears while riding a stolen pink hoverboard. Dubbed the 2011 Nike Mag Shoes, they look like footwear Hermes the messenger god might wear if he were reincarnated in Tokyo.

A limited edition of 1,500 hundred pairs of the shoes were auctioned off, last week, in live-auction charity outings, as well as on eBay. The winning bids have ranged from around $5000 to $75,000, while notable buyers included rapper, Kid Cudi (who bought four pairs) and basketball player Marco Belinelli. Thankfully, the proceeds go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

The shoes have created a buzz among sneakerheads and BTTF fans, sparking myriad blog posts and fan videos. They have been called the most anticipated Nike of all time. The official teaser has more than two and a half million views. As insightful youtube user DOMESTIK remarked, "They look stupid As Fuck, but goddamn I want a pair".

Motherboard chatted with DeeZee, a self-styled "promoter" who recently won a pair for himself.

Are you proud to be an owner of a pair of 2011 Nike Mag's?
Yeah. I won em on ebay. I don't have em yet— they're getting shipped.

When do you expect to have them?
Soon. By the end of the week I guess. Better be soon, I paid enough for em.

And how much did you pay for them?
7 g's.

Do you think that's a lot for a pair of shoes?
Yeah, it's a lot.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?
A hundred. More than that. I've got a whole room full.

Will you wear ever wear the Nike Mags, or will you just keep them in the box?
Haha, depends how they look. I'll wear em once or twice, keep em fresh. I didn't buy em for the box.

So you won't be putting them back on eBay or Craigslist?
No.

Have you watched the Back to the Future movies?
Yeah, some of em. The hoverboards and shit. That was cool.

And are you glad that the money for the shoes is going to charity?
Sure.

What do you like most about the shoes?
All the hype, the limited edition. People are going to recognize that shit on my feet.
