James Murphy Teams Up with IBM to Turn Tennis Data Into Beats

Live and direct from the US Open.

When it comes to doing crazy things with sound—James Murphy does not fuck around. With the US Open in full-swing in New York City, Mr. Murphy teamed up with some fellow geniuses at IBM and digital production company Tool for a music, sports and tech project. Murphy's US Open Tennis Project extracts stats and actions from tennis matches, converts it into data and than uses that data to create music all using a complex algorithm.

We don't totally understand how this shit works, but there is a video just released by IBM that attempts to break it down so normal people can understand. Game, set, beats!
