Kid Sister Gets Even “Higher” with Remix by Newbody

Future funk aside, Chicago’s own still knows how to get down.

Jane Jupiter is the future-funk-loving body-con-outfit-wearing alter-ego of Kid Sister (aka Melisa Young). Her latest mixtape, DUSK2DAWN: The Diary of Jane Jupiter features several new tunes, including the Chad Hugo-produced "Higher." What The Neptunes vet offers the track in savoir faire, LA/Detroit duo Newbody drop in two-step sweatiness. Premiering here, the remix is a result of a connection through Kid Sis's longtime friends and collaborators Flosstradamus, and more than just the product of anonymous emailing of stems.

"They reached out to the Body High guys and put us in touch," she tells THUMP. "Soon thereafter I met up with Jonathan [Roshad] and Roberto [Ramone] who are both super sweet and incredibly talented and knew right away they would do the song justice."

The original "Higher" puts Kid Sister's dance roots to the side as Jane Jupiter steps up her hook-filled retro disco swag. For those longing for Ultraviolet-era Sis, this remix gives them a taste.

"It reminded me so much of mixtapes I bought in the late 90s in Chicago, the ones with the DJ's pager number on them," she recalls. "Very sentimental, very crucial."
