Clemson Backup QB Comes In, Throws Interception Returned 85 Yards For TD

Clemson quarterback Cole Stoudt replaced the injured Deshaun Watson and promplty threw an interception that went 85 yards the other way for a touchdown.

Clemson's freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson missed the last three games with a broken bone in his hand, and early in his return today he went down with an apparent leg injury while running for a first down inside the Georgia Tech red zone. As he was being examined on the sideline, senior Cole Stoudt entered the game for the Tigers and promptly threw an interception that was returned 85 yards for a touchdown.

Stoudt, who's struggled with a shoulder injury and told reporters he needed a shot before the game, ran for five yards upon entering the game. Unfortunately on the very next play, he threw a screen pass into a mess of people that was easily picked off by Jamal Golden, who had nothing but green grass in front of him.

Silver lining for Clemson: a botched snap foiled the extra point so this looks like a boring-ass field goal battle, not a gimme score on a glaring mistake. Clemson would later add an actual field goal to take a 9-3 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
