Chanti Darling's Galaxy Barn Performance Of "Got a Thing (for Me)" Will Make You Dance Even If You Don't Dance

A glimpse into the Portland band's all-night, electric atmosphere.

Rising Portland band Chanti Darling define themselves, quite literally, as: "Future Funktified Post R&B(oogie) ; Sexy jams for days on in; Not so Quiet Storm." It sounds like a stretch, if you can figure it out at all, but listen to the gentle house and soft funk of a track like "Stars" from 2015 and it starts to make sense. The winners of the alt-weekly Willamette Week's 2015 Best New Band award, the band, led by the electric Chanticleer Tru, are a brightly-colored, all-night party in a city that's often (fairly) accused of indie homogeneity.

Their performance of the shiny R&B dance jam "Got a Thing (For Me)" is the latest in the Galaxy Barn Series, presented by Noisey, from last year's Pickathon Festival. Tru's charisma is on full show, leading the crowd through every snap, hip-thrust, and falsetto jump. Their debut full-length is due out in early 2018 on the brilliant Portland indie label Tender Loving Empire. On this strength, it'll be well worth keeping an eye on.
