The 25th Hr's "Regrets / Devour" Single Unites R&B and Garage for the Toronto Soul

Get you a musician that can do both.

The 25th Hr is a producer and vocalist from Toronto who resists easy classification. He sings on his beats but is willing to let the production itself be a showcase. This meeting of R&B and electronic sensibilities is similar to Dawn Richard, but what's unique about 25th Hr's new double-sided single is how it lets these approaches live separately.

The A-side, "Regrets," fits into an urban mold but tears itself apart with overloaded chiptune synthesizers. "[It's] a song about the fear of missing out," 25th Hr told Noisey, "like,is this what a relationship is supposed to be like? Will I regret this in the end?" "Devour" abandons pop structure entirely, going for UK garage's skittering percussion and chopped-up vocal samples rather than lyrics. "The vocals in 'Devour' are mine. I did a cover of Shai's 'If I Ever Fall in Love' and repurposed what I sung from that," says 25th Hr. Listen to both songs below.
