Today, Noisey writer Paul Bridgewater asked me very nonchalantly over AIM what I’d picked up this year at Record Store Day. For those who don’t know, Record Store Day is a DIY holiday inaugurated in 2007. Once a year, snarky clerks at over 700 independently owned record shops worldwide drop the attitude and come together. This year saw limited edition vinyl coming in from a bunch of great bands. Just wish that Soundgarden 7" had made it to the presses in time. Well, this year I missed Record Store Day. I was stuck inside working, and couldn’t get any new vinyl. It makes me glad, however, to see that Noisey’s favorite Australian post-punkers My Disco are rereleasing their 2010 meditative masterpiece Little Joy as a deluxe double LP. Each copy will include a two-foot square poster, MP3 downloads, and etched vinyl. Apparently there are also a limited number of white and green swirled LPs available for all you Celtics fans out there. The album’s opener is called “Closer,” and it’s a record highlight for me. The band takes their tribal, meditative kraut to the extreme on this one, winding themselves up towards a bizarrely neurotic apex by the three-minute mark. Check it out here.
