I started writing about how Jessie Ware should've scooped the Mercury Music Prize for, like, "totally pushing the boundaries of pop whilst working with the most exciting names in underground blah blah blah", then I realized that nobody would give a shit. Alt-J's win marked twenty years of the Mercury prize, and twenty years of musos and journalists making pithy remarks about how unimportant they actually are. Cue a million snotty riposte blogs saying the whole shortlist was shit in the first place and bandying round names of cutting edge acts — "I didn't even watch the awards, I was too busy wilin' out to Rustie *guffaw*"I just think, so long as there's people still taking to their Twitter to whine about it's irrelevance or gross old music hacks who've started self-consciously championing urban acts to make them look forward thinking writing lengthy think pieces on it, then it probz means the Mercurys still have some cultural cache. So nerrrr.ANYWAY, here's the Alt-J video "Tessellate" that we premiered on Noisey, cos we're eclectic like that.
