Premiere: Chevalier Avant Garde - "Rose Rider"

I would be tempted to describe Rose Rider as a mysteriously dark ambient melange of playfulness and death. But that would probably make the Montreal-based electro-pop duo Chevalier Avant Garde barf.

I would be tempted to describe Rose Rider as a mysteriously dark ambient melange of playfulness and death. But that would probably make the Montreal-based electro-pop duo Chevalier Avant Garde barf. The band's members Dimitri and Filip aren't as full of bullshit as I am. They have balls big enough to cut out the psycho-meta-crap and admit that Rose Rider "doesn't mean anything, it just sounds good." Chevalier Avant Garde makes the kind of music you'd think King Arthur would listen to if his famous knights were into synths instead of swords. It's deeply chilling and would sound pretty good in a darkly-lit dungeon. For the video, the Montreal-based band teamed up with director and visualizer Rob Feulner (they live we sleep and bleu nuit video). Rob embraced the band's skin-deep vision by deciding to almost completely ignore the link between the song and the visuals. Rob grabbed a couple VHS copies of Jean Rollin's 1973 art film The Iron Rose- because he thought it had the word "rose" in it and it looked great, then he manipulated and yanked on the tapes to achieve the video's trippy you're-dad's-worn-out VHS copy of old porn look. Rob wanted to toy with the idea of being trapped between life and death, while Dimitri just wanted a rose, a desert and a naked chick walking around. In the end, everybody wins!

Rose Rider is taken from electro-pop duo Chevalier Avant Garde's upcoming LP Resurrection Machine, which is set to be released on September 10th on Fixture Records.
