Tonight we’re returning to Chicago for a show at the Empty Bottle with Frankie Rose and Noisey alum Dirty Beaches.
Alex Zhang-Hungtai of Dirty Beaches has changed his live set-up since we last checked in with him. He’s currently touring as a three piece, complete with saxophone and rototoms (those silver, high-pitched drums you remember from marching band). He’s changed his sound up a bit as well—Alex's new songs have developed from haunted, deconstructed rockabilly to more of a groove-based, stripper-type feel. If he was shooting for Wild At Heart before, he’s now moved full-on into Lost Highway territory. He plays here with Frankie Rose, a Brooklyn bartender famous for starting the Vivian Girls, playing with the Dum Dum Girls and Crystal Stilts, and fronting this fuzzy girl-group-inspired noise-pop band. Rose’s live act has gone through some changes as well—she recently fired the Outs, her previous, all-girl backing band.Check the information below, and the best interview ever done with Alex from Dirty Beaches.
