Listen to Denzel Curry's Nostalgic 64 Mixtape "Chopped Not Slopped" by Slim K

Sip responsibly.

If you've got an afternoon to kill and a convincing fake cough, this one's for you. Houston's own Slim K, a member of OG Ron C's Chopstars crew, provides Denzel Curry's breakout Nostalgic 64 mixtape with the patented "chopped not slopped" treatment. Results are predictably wavy. Kids, sip responsibly.

Stream our exclusive premiere of the tape and peep my Q&A with Slim K below.

Noisey: How long have you been involved in screw music? What originally drew you to the screw sound?
Slim K: I've been involved with screw music the majority of my life. I’ve been mixing since the early 2000's. What originally drew me to the sound was a DJ Screw grey tape named “Leanin' on a Switch” [ed. note: drop everything and listen immediately] that had a bunch of freestyles from Lil Keke, Fat Pat (RIP) and Big Pokey.

How did you connect Denzel Curry? What's your take on his place in Florida's scene?
I first came across Denzel's work when I was working on Purple Children 4 last year with my boy Rob Gallardo. It all started off with him passing me "Threatz", and I was surprised how catchy and hard it knocked on first listen. It wasn’t until DJ OHSO linked me up with more of his work when I became a fan of his catalogue.

In my opinion, Denzel is a familiar yet, fresh sound in the Florida scene…he reminds me of the vintage Three 6, Bone Thugs with the fast flow and dark music but with an Outkast vibe. He’s going to be around for a long time, he can only go up from here!

Whats your favorite environment to listen to screw music?
My car. If any mix I do doesn’t pass my car test then I don’t release it to the public. I gotta be able to cruise to the joint.

How do you feel about the state of the screw movement in 2014?
I feel the sound is around and it's larger than it has been for a while. You have the top hip-hop artists in the game, Drake and Kendrick, accepting and cosigning projects all the way down to the up-and-coming artists. It's dope. I also noticed a shift in the culture, people are now starting to understand that the “chopped not slopped” movement is upholding Screw's legacy, because at the end of the day, it's not a “Screw” mix if DJ Screw didn’t lay his hands on the table. Me and my dawg OG Ron C and all the rest of the Chopstars are holding the sound down for 2014 and beyond.

What is the craziest song you've ever chopped and screwed?
Oh man too many to name, but most recently it would be the artist KOHH out of japan. I'm currently in the works on a project with him…all in Japanese!
