Noisey is pairing with JD Future Legends to present NEXT ON TOUR, a series of free summer gigs held throughout Australia.

The tour heads to the Gold Coast tonight when Brisbane’s Tempura Nights team up with local garage bruisers White Lodge and Draggs to take over Elsewhere for a night of raucous rock and roll.

Entry is free but you need to RSVP now.

Tempura Nights are from Brisbane but their sound will relate to any young romantic who has band posters on their bedroom walls and heavy crushes in their hearts.

Playing a style of indie pop that could be described as relaxed but buzzing, the band released the Studville album late last year. Recorded on a diet of $5 Bánh mì and power pop, the album holds a certain Vivian Girls vibe but the four-piece bring enough of their own unique charm to stand on their own.

Ahead of their Gold Coast the NEXT ON TOUR show tonight we had a quick chat to guitarist and vocalist Alice Rezende.

Noisey: You haven't played the Gold Coast before. What are you expecting?
Alice Rezende: The sons and daughters of surfers and bikies clad in white jeans. I’m expecting a lot of white jeans.

Where did the inspiration of Studville come from?
Walking up and down to catch public transport in the northside. It’s a hell of a long walk between my house and the train station, and sometimes when I’m bored with music I start singing to myself. The first line “wanna be your fantastic stud” just sort of blasted me in the face one afternoon when I was walking. Some stuff in the song is about that walk. Some stuff is about wanting to be a better lover.

Some of your songs remind me of the Vivian Girls. Did you see them when they came to Brisbane?
Sadly no. I also missed Jay Reatard by like a year. Yeah I’m really into Vivian Girls, I think Cassie Ramone had/has a great guitar-playing style. I don’t mind sounding like someone like Cassie, but I hope one day we have enough of a body of work that we can be some sort of reference to someone in an even dingier town than Brisbane.

What is your favourite 90s Brisbane band?
Dollar Bar technically started in 1998. I saw them last year at Sonic Masala Fest ripping lightning bolts on stage.

Where’s the best coffee in Brisbane?
Reverends in the Valley. Our mate Stu just graduated to full-time coffee snob there.
