PREMIERE: So Young's "Whatever I Want To" Is an Anthem for Waking Up Early After One-Night Stands

It's hard to sleep in when you're in a new bed.

You may remember So Young from when we spoke to front-woman Paterson Hodgson, but the band has been plenty busy since then. In addition to taking on a new member and planning an Ontario tour, the band has released a great new video for their song "Whatever I Want To" that is sure to inspire all of the overachievers out there. The refrain of "I'll get up before you" repeats itself over poppy electric guitar, which might lead you to question whether the song is a declaration of independence or a steady guilting of anyone who enjoys hitting the snooze button a little too often.

"So Young declares that girls are going to do whatever the heck they want to," explains Hodgson in an email. "Hovering around the 2 minute mark it lyrically cuts to the quick—this song is about gettin' laid, no regrets and not a second thought to what anyone else thinks. The video paints a slightly less salacious picture of a gang of girls bumming around, going places they shouldn't, and causing trouble. The concept is familiar, every second video on MTV in the 90s was of a bunch of dudes running around being goofy (hey Blink 182), but this time the girls get to eat pizza and skateboard."
