Out Cold - "Sorrow (The Invisible Remix)"

Simon Aldred is one of the Manchester music scene's most underrated talents.

Simon Aldred is one of the Manchester music scene's most underrated talents. His old band, Cherry Ghost, made soulful heartfelt guitar music. But, as Aldred himself admits, "the pattern of strumming a guitar felt really flat, I didn’t want to make another miserable Northern record". So he retooled as Out Cold, an adventurous electronic savant with influence born from sixties Motown, seventies Philadelphia and eighties New York. Here's the exclusive premiere of his latest single "Sorrow" remixed by The Invisible, the three-piece soft-focus electronica outfit whose frontman Dave Okumu produced the lion's share of the Jessie Ware album.

We were at Beacons all weekend, so we didn't have time for an interview. But we did send a few questions over email to Simon, which he kindly responded to:

How would you explain what Out Cold is to your parents' friends?
A brief respite from the Northern strummy thing.

How did you get The Invisible to remix your track?
Danny at Heavenly hooked us up. They did a great job.

What other cool Out Cold stuff is happening soon?
My album is out in early September - it's called Invasion of Love and I co-produced it with Ash Workman who has worked with Metronomy and NZCA Lines. (Pre-order it here)

What's the background on your phone?
David Sneddon doing a slut drop.

What did you get in your A-Levels?
3 As: Maths, further maths and P.E.
