PREMIERE: Tasseomancy's "Apophenia" is a Trip Worth Taking

“I know something’s coming,” chants twin sisters Sari and Romy Lightman. Better known as Tasseomancy, the Lightman sisters might be familiar from their time performing with Austra, but are standing on their own with a new song called “Apophenia.” Off of their upcoming album Palm Wine Revisited, “Apophenia” is a whimsical descent into randomness. “Apophenia” is a term used to describe making sense out of connections or patterns that appear to be random, and the same can be said about the duo’s new tune, as the narrative on “Apophenia” appears to be one shrouded in both mystery and ambiguity.

Complete with a delicate arrangement of steel drums, “Apophenia” takes listeners on a journey filled with airy vocals and uncertain outcomes. Although it’s not clear what the sisters are trying to get across, “Apophenia” is the kind of track one can easily get lost in. Just make sure to mark your path before you venture out.
