#BaldForBieber Debunked Nearly As Quickly As It Began

No one fell for this, right?

When you think about it, 4chan might be the most important website of the past ten years. No site managed to create a self-governing, like-minded community that inhabits the net with a greater sense of totality than 4chan did at such an early stage in the internet's development. They've moved e-mountains, serving as a catalyst for all sorts of actions that have genuine implications in the real world. This time around, they kind of went for the low-hanging fruit, trolling Justin Bieber fans of all people.

Basically, what happened is this: somebody decided to photoshop a tweet from Entertainment Weekly saying that Justin Bieber had cancer and needed to undergo chemotherapy, and that his fans were shaving their heads in support of him. Then, they photoshopped a bother fake tweet from Da Biebz thanking his fans for their support, throwing in the hashtag #BaldForBieber.

As you can see from the tweet, this is patently ridiculous—one, no tweet is ever rendered in a serif font (serifs are the little things that accent the end of letters in a type face; if it's like the font that you read Noisey in, that's called a "sans font."). Two, it's pretty unclear as to whether anyone actually shaved their head for this—whoever likes Justin Bieber and is gullible enough probably has parents, and those parents probably saw them brandishing a pair of clippers and then probably stopped them. Anyways, this was pretty much bullshit and if you've got a kid, don't let them save their heads.
