Burger-a-Go-Go is a festival sponsored by dedicated SoCal indie Burger Records touting one of summer festival season's only all-women lineups. In a business dominated by men, Burger-a-Go-Go's creation of a safe space for women in rock to be celebrated is not just powerful, it's necessary. Held at the Obseratory in Santa Ana, the event was blessed by a lineup spanning the ages: younger talents like Gal Pals and Bleached shared space with vets Kimya Dawson and Cat Power as well as lifers Kathleen Hanna, whose band the Julie Ruin returned to the stage this year when Hanna's Lyme disease abated enough to allow her to tour, and Kim Gordon, playing with Alex Knost of Burger Records affliliates Tomorrows Tulips as Glitterbust.
