Just days before Montreal’s infamous annual anti-police-brutality protest, the city’s police union woke up to a freaky treat Friday (the 13th!) morning as someone left them a bloody, severed pig’s head on their doorstep.

Police received a call at around 6:15 AM from an employee who happened upon the scene at the Montreal Police Brotherhood’s headquarters on Gilford Street. Along with the pig’s head, investigators found a pentagram, a bunch of tree branches set up to resemble a human, and a malediction letter. (That’s a letter that curses you.)

“Living you took them from us! Living we want them back!!! May ghosts haunt you forever,” read the letter, which spelled backward in the fashion of a Satanist rite.

Officers processed the evidence on the scene and reviewed video-surveillance footage, but have no leads on suspects so far.

VICE reached the Service de Police de la Ville de Montreal (SPVM) media relations this morning. “There’s still a lot of investigative work to be done,” officer Annie Lemieux told VICE.

The police are investigating these mischievous events to determine whether there was any criminal intent, such as intimidation or harassment.

In recent years, people have been charged for less.

A young woman is currently on trial for criminal harassment for having shared a picture of a graffiti depicting SPVM spokesperson Ian Lafrenière with a bullet in his head. A verdict in her case is expected on April 23. A well-known anti-police brutality activist has also been charged with intimidation against an officer last year.

The Montreal Police Brotherhood declined to comment.
