Vintage ads and sultry fashion photos get a psychedelic second life under the digital scalpel of collage artist Peter Nudo. Whether he’s replacing a woman’s elbows with flowers or injecting the cosmos into a baby’s brain, Nudo’s combination of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and the mobile apps VSCO and Mextures, is always put to clever use. “I try to say something with my art,” he tells The Creators Project. “Whether it’s a play on words or a deeper sentiment. I spend a great deal of time on details and making sure images that I’m using are cut out perfectly, blurred, and sharpened to make them look real and cohesive to the design.”
As a UX designer by day, his surreal images apply his creative energies in ways the nine-to-five grind simply can’t. “I sometimes have a solid idea that I want to run with and sometimes I just end up having fun until I come up with something that I like,” he explains. Nudo’s collages adapt to the images available to him as he finds just the right flower, flavor, or pharmaceutical to play off of a model’s leg or an absurd ad from the 1950s.
