Reports suggest that the university gym was closed down suddenly “due to unforeseen events,” according to News Corp.
Members of the public commented on the Facebook post to give condolences and students tagged each other to share the news. One student commented that the incident took place in the morning.
According to a WSU student, all students were sent texts advising them to check their emails. The internal email sent by the director of campus safety and security, Matthew Dakin, informed students that the incident took place in the morning.
The email also revealed that the student attended The College, an alternative entry pathway offered with programs and courses to transition into WSU.
WSU encouraged students to reach out to onsite counsellors and assured that there’s no threat to students or staff.
NSW Police are investigating the matter. While details have not been revealed, a NSW Police spokesperson suggested that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
