Syd’s debut solo album Fin goes stupid hard partially because it has no fat. It’s 37 minutes of limber throwback-ish R&B and nothing more. Still, a new outtake shared by Syd after announcing it on Twitter makes you think that maybe just one more song wouldn’t have hurt. “Treading Water” rides an impeccable jazz-funk beat by Internet member and regular collaborator Steve Lacy (and Ronald “Flip” Colson) that you may recognize from Big Sean and Jhené Aiko’s “Selfish,” off their weird tabloid-bait concept album TWENTY88.
