Terrorism Fears Lead to Paris Food Festival Cancellation

Paris’s reputation as a hub for all things wine and food is sadly beginning to overlap with its reputation as a target for terror attacks.

A Paris food festival called Street Food Temple, originally scheduled to last from September 23 to 25 has been cancelled due to security concerns. The event, which was supposed to be in its third year, was expected to attract thousands of guests with outdoor markets and 20 food trucks.

But the location turned out to be too difficult to adequately secure, according to Street Food Temple organizers, who ended up pulling the plug on the New York-themed festival this week.

“Securing the entire area and maintaining conditions of comfort for the visitors while limiting as much as possible disturbance to the locals have proved to be extremely complicated in the context of the security measures affecting all public events,” organisers told local media, adding that the decision to cancel the food festivities was made in concert with city and law enforcement authorities.

Numerous summer festivals have been cancelled this year in France following the rash of terror attacks that swept the country over recent months, most notably, in la métropole where 128 people died in attacks on restaurants, a soccer stadium, and the Bataclan concert hall last November.

This news comes days after German police foiled an ISIS bomb plot targeting Eisenhuettenstadt’s City Festival and reports of backpacks being banned from upcoming Oktoberfest festivities. Meanwhile, in the UK, those in the service industry have even been receiving advice from counterterrorism experts on how to plan ahead and take precautions in the event of Paris-style attacks on bars and restaurants.
