Much-loved Dunedin band The Clean will be inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame later this month.
Formed in 1978 by brothers David and Hamish Kilgour and the late Peter Gutteridge, the band leaned on melody and experimentation to develop a unique and heavily influential style of pop music.

The band’s first single, “Tally Ho”, which was said to have cost the band $50, was released on Flying Nun in 1981, and reached No 19 in the New Zealand charts. From there the band have become synonymous with ‘the Dunedin sound’ and their mix of offbeat music and fierce independence have made them stars of New Zealand music.
The band has twice declined to be inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame, but will finally accept the award at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards at Dunedin Town Hall on September 28.
