Every year, idea science publishing impresario John Brockmann asks a question of his eminent social network for his Edge forum. This year, thanks to a suggestion by Steven Pinker, it’s “What scientific concept would improve everybody’s cognitive toolkit?”

We’re collecting a number of our favorite responses in individual posts here, in part because the simple Edge website lumps them all together in a nearly overwhelming stream of ideas (thankfully, cleanly, without links), in part because Edge offers no place to comment on these ideas, and in part because it’s nice to have a space (this one) where we can see ideas arranged more visually – and where anyone can add their own idea.
