In the third inning of the Blue Jays’ 7-4 win against the Yankees on Wednesday afternoon, Josh Donaldson got into a heated exchange with his manager John Gibbons after being struck out.
Donaldson threw his bat violently when he got back to the dugout, much to the displeasure of Gibbons, who got up close and personal with his all-star third baseman before the two had to be separated by Troy Tulowitzki.

After the game, which Donaldson left in the sixth inning after suffering a thumb injury, the reigning MVP explained what happened between him and Gibbons, and threw everyone a curveball.
“Gibby asked me what kind of cologne I was wearing, and I said, ‘It’s this new cologne called Tom Ford, I just got it. He’s like, ‘Really,’ so he kind of got close to me to get a good whiff of it, and I was like, ‘Hey man, back up.’ I was like, ‘I’ll give you some after the game.’ So then we separated.”
Donaldson didn’t stop his comedic routine there, taking to Twitter to post a picture of the new cologne Gibbons was apparently so intrigued by.
Gibbons, meanwhile, had his own take on the situation and the conversation that unfolded.
“I told him after that first at-bat, get a new bat, that one ain’t working. Took the same one up there the second time, that didn’t work so he chose to break it. I went down and told him, ‘You should have listened to me.’”
Don’t change, guys.
