FIVE REASONS WHY THE REMAKE OF ‘A PROPHET’ MAKES NO SENSE
Videos by VICE
It was recently announced that the 2009 French-made film A Prophet (original title Un prophete), will be the next of the numerous foreign-language films to get slated with an American remake, with a script by crime novelist Dennis Lehane. Sure he’s the man behind Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island, and Mystic River; but before you get too excited, guess who the producer of this project is? Neal Moritz, the guy behind the Fast & Furious movies and the dude who let that Total Recall remake be a thing that happened. You see, it’s not even that I think this decision is dumb and tasteless, which it probably is, but it’s mainly that it doesn’t make any actual sense. It’s like the logic wheels of Hollywood broke and now anything goes. Let me take you through the reasons why I’m so confused.
JIL SOLOWAY TALKS ‘AFTERNOON DELIGHT’ AND STRIPPERS
Having Quentin Tarantino name-drop your film as one of his favourite movies of the year must be every director’s dream. It happened to first-timer Jill Soloway, and now her debut Afternoon Delight, a comedy-drama about a young mom who invites a stripper into her home, is getting the attention it deserves.
WATCH SPIKE JONZE’S LIVE MUSIC VIDEO FOR ARCADE FIRE FEATURING GRETA GERWIG
So the YouTube Music Awards finally happened last night, and it was freakin’ awesome. Why? Because of Spike JonZe’s “live music video” for Arcade Fire’s ‘Afterlife’, featuring indie starlet Greta Gerwig throwing some mad shapes.
DESTIN CRETTON ON ‘SHORT TERM 12’ AND ROTTEN TOMATOES RATINGS
Only five years ago, Destin Daniel Cretton was a grad student at San Diego State University, working on a short film as his thesis project. That short was called Short Term 12 and it was based on Cretton’s previous experience working in a foster care facility for at-risk teenagers.
Now, the 34-year-old director is travelling the world touring his sophomore feature, also called Short Term 12, a sensitive drama with a powerhouse performance from Brie Larson, following the foster care workers whose personal dramas get entangled with those of the kids they care for.
