The plane crash that killed the majority of Brazilian side Chapecoense, along with other passengers, has rocked the soccer world this week. There is an eerie feeling that the togetherness inherent to playing on a team can cause it all to be swept away in an instant. The loss of one player is tragic. The loss of a whole side is confoundingly sad.

Various players expressed their sorrow throughout the week In response, and today not only marks the first weekend of fixtures since the crash, but the day all players and other crash victims will be laid to rest. Above, you can see Brazilian-born Chelsea players David Luis and Willian holding up the black arm bands worn by all teams in the Premier League today. After Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Manchester City, Luis said he was dedicating the victory to Chapecoense.

Also, during one of the most bitter rivalries known to soccer, El Clasico, both Real Madrid and Barcelona came together to pay tribute before kickoff.
