The Creators Project team goes inside the Future Forward interactive installations with the commissioned artists.
Doris Sung’s Drift, a heat-responsive chandelier inspired by the technology of the all-new Prius, was the first installation to greet guests at the Future Forward event series kickoff in New York City. The thermobimetal sculpture that responds to beams of heated theatrical lights demonstrates the capabilities for smart buildings to move with trajectory of the sun in the future. Visitors to the piece can see how each layer of structure affects each other with the rotating alloy tiles designed to open and shut depending on the temperature. The installation moves in wondrous bursts of energy. While standing in front of the piece Sung says, “I am just so focused on the performance of the pieces. It’s not until it’s here that I can step back and say, ‘Wow, that’s a cool thing!’”
