Wonderland

The dog days of summer are coming to an end, and the final MoMA PS1 Warm Up of August is kicking off at 3PM tomorrow. The musical lineup boasts Matias Aguayo, Kingdom, D∆WN, DJ Windows 98, Murlo, and FALSE WITNESS. The exhibit Zero Tolerance is this week’s choice art we think you ought to check out. The collection includes Turkish contemporary artist Halil Altindere’s short film Wonderland, which follows a group of Istanbul youth in the Tahribad-ı isyan hip-hop group, as they reckon with gentrification, inequality, and police intolerance while their neighborhood becomes demolished for a “urban renewal” program. The film is shot like a music video, and is faintly reminiscent of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs, which feels all too fitting as DJ Windows 98 takes the stage this weekend.

According to museum’s press release, Zero Tolerance is “named for the 1990s policy under which New York City took a tough stance against vice and crime, Zero Tolerance brings together works by artists from across the globe that address tensions between freedom and control.” Peep a preview of some of the work below, but don’t miss it tomorrow at PS1.
